All of Akiva’s literary quotes come from in-depth study of Calvin & Hobbes.
Knowing how much he liked the cartoons, I suggested he read it in French, for French practice.

In response, he wrote a five-sentence argumentative essay
on why he should not read Calvin & Hobbes in French.
He won.

So much better than “You’ll do it because I said so.” How about reading Asterix in French and English and deciding which is funnier.
He isn’t a fan of Asterix! Nor is he a fan of Tin-Tin. He IS a fan of Les Tuniques Bleus, which is a series based on the US civil war, originally told in French. Must be some fun history there. Also he is a fan of Lucky Luke, which takes place in the American West & was also originally written in French by the man who went on to later collaborate on Asterix. Akiva reads them both in French.
