     Because it wasn’t sufficiently cross-filed in your mental catalogue of the few-dozen brass candlesticks that have come and gone through the house in the past 20 years?

     Thanks, Cate! The photo turned out way better than my original idea, which was to attempt to photograph my (newly-solo) sleeping baby by the light of a teeny tiny lamp we keep by the bedside. I was too timid to shine the light on her too long, and the camera was balancing on a tripod on a squishy mattress, and I really couldn’t see what I was doing, so I just kept coming up with these really uninteresting black rectangles. Fortunately, the baby did not awaken.
